Split & Combine Orders

Splitting and combining orders helps operations match fulfillment work to stock position, warehouse availability, and customer expectations.

Use split orders when

  • Some items can ship now and others cannot
  • Different warehouses must fulfill the same order
  • Hazardous or oversized items require a separate shipment

Use combined orders when

  • Multiple orders from the same customer should ship together
  • The ship window and destination are the same
  • Operations wants to reduce label and carton count

Control points

  • Confirm billing and shipping rules before changing structure
  • Preserve notes and references during the update
  • Recheck inventory allocation after the change
  • Communicate customer impact if delivery timing changes
